Your natural beauty begins with a confident smile.
Modern Solutions for Replacing Multiple Teeth
Losing multiple teeth can have a profound impact on your ability to eat, speak clearly, and feel confident in social situations. It can also lead to the sagging of facial muscles, making one appear older. Our modern denture solutions-whether partial or complete-are designed to reverse these effects, providing a functional replacement that restores both your smile and your facial volume.
Forget the uncomfortable, slipping dentures of the past. We take precise measurements to create prosthetics that fit securely and comfortably against your gums. We use high-grade materials that mimic the look of natural gum tissue and teeth. We work with you to ensure the fit is snug, allowing you to enjoy your favorite foods and smile without hesitation.
Which Type of Denture Suits You
- Complete dentures replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
- Partial dentures replace one or several missing teeth and clip onto the remaining natural teeth.
- Immediate dentures are made in advance and fitted on the day teeth are removed, so you are not without teeth while the gums heal.
- Overdentures and implant-retained dentures sit over a few retained roots or dental implants for extra stability.
Dentures suit people missing several teeth who want a removable, non-surgical option, or who are not ready for implants. When only one or two teeth are missing and the neighboring teeth are healthy, a fixed bridge or an implant may feel more natural. Decay and gum disease in the remaining teeth are treated before a partial denture is designed around them.
How Your Dentures Are Made
- Examination: The dentist checks your gums, remaining teeth and jaw, often with digital X-rays, and discusses the options.
- Impressions: Detailed impressions record the shape of your mouth for the dental laboratory.
- Bite record and tooth selection: The way your jaws meet is recorded, and the shade and shape of the teeth are chosen.
- Try-in: A wax version lets you and the dentist check appearance, speech and bite before the final denture is made.
- Fitting and review: The finished denture is fitted and adjusted, with follow-up visits to ease sore spots.
Conventional dentures typically take a few weeks and several visits. No anesthesia is needed for the denture stages themselves.
Getting Used to New Dentures and Daily Care
New dentures often feel bulky or loose at first while your cheek and tongue muscles learn to hold them, and extra saliva and minor sore spots are common in the early weeks. Starting with soft food cut into small pieces and chewing on both sides at once helps.
- Take dentures out at night and keep them in water or a soaking solution so they do not dry out and warp.
- Brush them daily with a soft brush and soap or a denture cleaner, not regular toothpaste, which can scratch them.
- Brush your gums, tongue and any remaining teeth each morning.
Contact the clinic if a sore spot does not settle within a few days, if an ulcer lasts more than two weeks, or if the denture cracks or a tooth comes off. Do not adjust a denture yourself.
What Affects Your Denture Plan and Its Lifespan
- How many teeth are missing and the health of those that remain
- The shape and amount of jawbone and gum supporting the denture
- Whether extractions are needed first, and whether an immediate denture is required
- The base material: acrylic, or a cast metal framework for some partial dentures
- Whether implants will be added for retention
Dentures can serve for years with good care, but the gums and jawbone continue to change shape after tooth loss, so the fit loosens over time. Regular checks allow relining or replacement when needed. Immediate dentures in particular usually need relining within the first year as the extraction sites heal.
Conventional Versus Implant-Retained Dentures
A conventional denture rests on the gums and is held by suction, muscle control and, for partials, clasps on natural teeth. An implant-retained denture clips onto two or more dental implants placed in the jawbone, which makes it more stable when chewing and speaking, especially for a lower complete denture. Implants involve minor surgery, a healing period and enough healthy bone, so they are not suitable for everyone. Your existing denture can sometimes be adapted to fit new implants.
