Tooth Colour Fillings

Invisible Repairs for a Flawless Smile

Cavities weaken the structural integrity of a tooth, but treating them shouldn’t mean compromising your smile’s appearance. We have moved away from traditional dark silver (amalgam) fillings in favor of modern composite resins.

These advanced materials are mercury-free and bond directly to the tooth surface, allowing us to preserve more of your natural healthy tooth structure than was possible with older methods.

The material is custom-blended to match the exact shade of your surrounding enamel. Once placed, we sculpt and polish the filling so that it mimics the natural contours and shine of a real tooth. The result is a durable, natural-looking restoration that blends so seamlessly, even you might forget which tooth was treated.

Who It Is For

When a Tooth Filling Is the Right Repair

A white (composite) filling is used to repair a tooth with a small to medium cavity, a chipped edge, worn areas near the gum line, or an old filling that is cracked or leaking. Signs that you may need one include:

  • A twinge with sweet, hot or cold food or drink
  • Food catching in the same spot between two teeth
  • A rough edge, a visible hole or a dark spot on the tooth
  • A filling that has fallen out or feels broken

Early decay often causes no symptoms at all and is found during a checkup or on an X-ray. A filling is not always the right answer. Very early enamel lesions may be stopped with fluoride and monitoring. If decay has destroyed most of the tooth, or a cusp has broken off, a crown or onlay usually protects the tooth better. If decay has reached the nerve, root canal treatment is needed before the tooth can be restored.

Step by Step

How a Composite Filling Is Placed

  1. Diagnosis: The tooth is examined and, where needed, a digital X-ray shows how deep the decay goes.
  2. Numbing: Local anaesthetic is used for most fillings so you feel pressure rather than pain.
  3. Removing decay: Soft, decayed tooth and any old filling are removed, keeping as much healthy tooth as possible.
  4. Bonding: The tooth is kept clean and dry, then treated with a conditioning gel and bonding agent so the composite can bond to it.
  5. Layering: Shade-matched composite is placed in thin layers, each hardened with a curing light.
  6. Shaping: The filling is shaped, the bite is checked, and the surface is polished.

Most fillings are completed in one visit. Because the tooth must stay dry throughout, a composite filling takes a little longer to place than a metal one.

Aftercare

After Your Filling: What Is Normal

Numbness wears off over a few hours; avoid chewing on that side and hot drinks until it does. Mild sensitivity to cold or biting for a few days, sometimes a few weeks after a deep filling, is common and usually fades.

Contact the clinic if:

  • The tooth feels high, or your teeth meet on it first; a quick adjustment usually solves this
  • Sensitivity gets worse instead of better
  • You have throbbing or lingering pain, or pain that wakes you at night, which may mean the nerve is inflamed
  • Swelling appears near the tooth
Cost and Lifespan

What Affects the Plan, the Cost and How Long It Lasts

The treatment plan and cost depend on:

  • How many surfaces of the tooth are involved and how large the filling is
  • Whether the tooth is a front or back tooth
  • Whether an old amalgam or composite filling must be removed first
  • Whether X-rays are needed, or the decay turns out deeper than expected

No filling lasts forever. Composite is durable in small to mid-size fillings under normal chewing forces, but some studies show it wears and needs replacing more often than amalgam, especially in large fillings on back teeth. Grinding, frequent sugar, biting hard objects and missed cleaning between teeth shorten its life. Regular checkups let a worn edge be repaired before decay gets underneath.

Compared with silver amalgam, composite blends with the tooth and is bonded in place, so less healthy tooth usually has to be removed to hold it. Amalgam is very durable and less costly, but it is visible and does not bond. Replacing intact, decay-free amalgam fillings purely for appearance is a choice to discuss, since each replacement removes a little more tooth.

Who Provides This Treatment

Tooth colour fillings at Mankhool Dental Clinic are placed by Dr. Christopher Cura Vicencio, a General Dentist at the clinic since 2011 who trained at the University of the East College of Dentistry. Restorative dentistry is one of his core areas, alongside preventive care and cosmetic bonding. When decay has reached the nerve, the tooth can be assessed by the clinic’s Specialist Endodontist, Dr. Madhu Mathews.

General & Preventive Dentistry

Other Treatments We Offer

Oral Examinations & Screenings

Prevention is always better than cure, and a comprehensive oral examination is the most effective tool we have to protect your smile.

Digital X-rays & Diagnostics

Many dental issues, such as bone loss, cysts, or decay between teeth, hide below the surface where the naked eye cannot see.

Tooth Extractions

Our primary goal is always to preserve your natural teeth, but there are times when an extraction is the healthiest choice-whether due to severe damage, advanced infection, or crowding.

Difficult Tooth Removal

While our primary goal is always to save teeth, there are times when removal is necessary for your health, such as with impacted wisdom teeth or severely broken roots.

Crowns & Bridges

When a tooth is severely damaged or weakened by a large filling, a simple repair isn’t enough to withstand chewing forces.

Dentures

Losing multiple teeth can have a profound impact on your ability to eat, speak clearly, and feel confident in social situations.

Fluoride & Sealants

Your tooth enamel is the hardest substance in your body, but it faces daily attacks from acids in your food and bacteria in your mouth.

Mouthguards & Nightguards

Teeth are incredibly strong, but they are not indestructible. Many people unknowingly grind or clench their teeth while sleeping (bruxism), leading to worn enamel, sensitive teeth, and chronic jaw headaches.

Bonding

Sometimes, a minor imperfection—like a small chip, a stubborn stain, or a slight gap between teeth—is all that stands between you and a perfect smile.

Teeth Cleaning

Even with diligent daily brushing and flossing, plaque can harden into tartar (calculus) in hard-to-reach areas, becoming impossible to remove at home.

Zoom Whitening

Over time, teeth naturally darken due to aging, dietary habits like coffee and wine, and lifestyle factors.
