Orthodontics

Expert Alignment for All Ages

Orthodontics is about more than just straight teeth; it is about creating a healthy, balanced bite that prevents jaw pain and uneven wear. Led by Specialist Orthodontist Dr. Saji John Mathews, we offer world-class correction for crowding, spacing, and complex alignment issues. By correcting your bite, we improve not just the aesthetics of your smile but also your ability to chew properly and maintain good oral hygiene.

We utilize advanced, modern bracket technologies designed to move teeth more freely and comfortably than older methods. These efficient techniques often reduce overall treatment time and minimize the need for extractions. Whether for a teenager or an adult, our treatments are customized to your specific needs, delivering a perfectly aligned smile that is both stable and beautiful for a lifetime.

Who It Helps

When to See an Orthodontist in Dubai

An orthodontist is a dentist with specialist training in diagnosing and correcting irregular teeth and jaws. The umbrella term for these problems is malocclusion, meaning the upper and lower teeth do not meet as they should. Causes include inherited jaw and tooth size, early or late loss of baby teeth, injury, and habits such as prolonged thumb sucking.

It is worth booking an assessment if you or your child notice:

  • Teeth that overlap, twist or sit outside the arch
  • Front teeth that stick out or bite too deeply over the lower teeth
  • Gaps that trap food or make cleaning difficult
  • Difficulty biting into food, or teeth that wear unevenly
  • A jaw that shifts to one side when closing

Orthodontics is not always the first step. Active gum disease or untreated decay needs to be brought under control before teeth are moved. Where the main concern is the shape or color of a few teeth rather than their position, bonding or veneers may be a simpler route, and some severe jaw discrepancies in adults need jaw surgery alongside braces.

The Process

How Orthodontic Treatment Works, Step by Step

  1. Consultation and records: The orthodontist examines your teeth, bite, jaw joints and facial profile, then takes photographs, impressions and digital X-rays.
  2. Diagnosis and options: You receive a plan that explains the problem, the appliance options (metal braces, tooth-colored braces or clear aligners such as Invisalign), the expected duration and any extractions or extra appliances needed.
  3. Preparation: Fillings, cleaning or gum treatment are completed first if needed.
  4. Fitting: Brackets are bonded to the teeth and joined by a wire, or your first aligners are fitted. No injections are needed for this stage.
  5. Active treatment: Gentle, continuous pressure moves the teeth through the bone. Regular reviews let the orthodontist adjust wires, elastics or aligner stages.
  6. Removal and retention: Braces are removed, the teeth are polished and retainers are fitted to hold the new positions.
Living With It

Comfort, Cleaning and When to Call Us

Expect tenderness for a few days after fitting and after each adjustment; soft food and over-the-counter pain relief usually help. Cheeks and lips often feel rubbed at first, and orthodontic wax over a bracket eases this while the tissues toughen up.

Plaque collects easily around brackets, so brush after meals with fluoride toothpaste, clean under the wire daily with an interdental brush and keep sugary snacks to a minimum. Poor hygiene during braces can leave permanent white marks or decay on the enamel.

Contact the clinic if pain lasts more than a few days, the gums become very red or swollen, a bracket comes loose or a wire breaks. Facial swelling or fever is not a normal braces symptom and needs prompt dental or medical attention.

Planning

What Shapes Your Plan and How Long Results Last

Your plan, duration and cost depend on several factors:

  • Whether the problem involves only tooth position or also the jaws
  • The amount of crowding or spacing, and whether extractions are needed
  • Your age and whether you are still growing
  • The appliance chosen and any extras, such as elastics or expanders
  • Existing crowns, missing teeth or gum issues that require coordination with other dentists
  • How consistently appliances and elastics are worn and appointments kept

Teeth tend to drift back toward their old positions, and gradual changes continue throughout life. Results are only as stable as the retention that follows, which is why retainers are part of every plan rather than an optional extra. Removable retainers wear out over time, and bonded wires should be checked at routine dental visits so small problems are caught early.

Many adults believe they have missed the window for straightening their teeth, but healthy teeth can be moved at any age.

Orthodontic for Children

Many parents believe they should wait until all of a child’s baby teeth have fallen out before seeing an orthodontist, but early evaluation is key to preventing severe issues later.

Orthodontic Retreatment

It is common for individuals who had braces in their youth to see their teeth shift back over time, especially if retainers weren’t worn consistently.
